Letter from DCC to affected residents
Dear Resident
A624 Hayfield Road, Temporary One-way System
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of a number of temporary traffic management
changes within the local area, and how these will have an influence on the way in which you
enter and exit the A624 Hayfield Road.
An emergency 7.5 tonne weight limit has been put in force on Sheffield Road, Chapel-en-le-
Frith, after a routine structural inspection found issues with a culvert that runs under the road.
The culvert takes Black Brook under Sheffield Road.
While a solution is found to strengthen the culvert it will be necessary for changes to the traffic
system in Chapel in order to maintain critical access for heavy goods vehicles.
Vehicles coming from the south on the A6 into Chapel won’t be affected by the weight limit
restrictions, but those coming from the north on the A6 will need to continue southbound on
the A6 to Barmoor Clough roundabout then head northbound on the A6 and turn left on the
B5470 Buxton Road / Market Street.
In order to allow heavy goods vehicles travelling east on the B5470 Market Street access onto
the A6 Chapel Bypass, a temporary one-way system needs to be introduced onto the A624
Hayfield Road between the junctions of Bowden Lane and Burrfields Road.
All appropriate signage to support the temporary one-way system will be erected in the next
few days.
As the monitoring and the design work for the culvert take place there may need to be
additional alterations to the traffic management within the local area, if this is the case
additional correspondence will be sent to you informing you of what these are and when they
will be in place.
I sincerely apologise for any disruption this may cause but given the complexity of the
structure and the approvals required from external bodies it is anticipated that these traffic
management arrangements could be in place for a considerable period of time. However;
please rest assured we do not arrive at these decisions lightly and we are working hard to
keep disruption to a minimum.
I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the short notification of these traffic
management changes and to thank you for your cooperation and support.
Yours sincerely
Head of Network Planning
